On the day he turns 51, Mineirão becomes a signatory of the UN Global Compact
Stadium is the first in Brazil to join the global initiative
On the day it turns 51, Mineirão officially became a signatory of the Brazil Network of the Global Compact of the United Nations (UN). The administration of Gigante da Pampulha signed a commitment, in a ceremony held this morning Monday, and made the stadium the first in Brazil – and the second in the world – to sign the pact. Only the Stade de France in Paris is also a signatory.
With the agreement, Mineirão will have to adopt values in the areas of human rights, labor relations, environment and fight against corruption, reflected in ten principles.
The principles of the Global Compact are derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Declaration of the International Labor Organization on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
Mineirão will have to report annually on the website of the Global Compact headquarters, located in New York. The report will contain the results achieved by the company that are related to the ten principles.
The Institutional Relations manager at Mineirão, Ludmila Resende, praised the partnership. “We are very happy to formalize this commitment. We want everyone who goes to the stadium to know that they are in a place committed to the premises of the UN”, she said.
Global Compact
The Global Compact is an initiative developed by the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, with the aim of mobilizing the international business community to adopt, in their business practices, the ten principles listed by organization. Currently, there are more than 13 thousand signatory organizations in more than 160 countries around the world.
