First of all, one of the most difficult moments to go through is the death of a loved one. Sometimes we wish we could have just said a few last words to the person.
What happens is that studies say that the auditory system it's the last sense to stop working at the moment of death, so maybe you can still say what you want. This research was done in 2020 and published in Scientific Reports. Know more!

For the studies to be carried out, the researchers used electroencephalography (EEG) technology. Through it it is possible to measure the electrical activity of the brain. Data were collected from conscious people and later when they were no longer conscious.
Elizabeth Blundon, lead author of the study, said the human brain can respond to sound signals until the very last moment of life. This is prior to a natural death, that is, when people are in the unresponsive phase.
With the aid of the EEG, it was possible to detect that patients, hours before death, were able to respond to sound signals in a very similar way to healthy young people.
This comparison was made from another study carried out in Europe, in which the brain responses of healthy individuals and patients with brain damage were analyzed.
After patients' approval, researchers made brain recordings of some of them when they were no longer responding.
Physicians have reported that they have witnessed various reactions from patients when loved ones were communicating with them. This suggests that the brain reacts to sound signals before natural death.
There are still no studies that prove whether or not patients understand what is being said. Although the brain responds to stimuli, it is not possible to say that it understands language itself.
In general, this study says a lot about the importance of accompanying our family members until the last moments before death.
