Named “Casa no Pomar do Cafezal”, the residence is the result of a partnership between rapper Kdu dos Anjos and architect Fernando Maculan, founders of “Coletivo Levante”.
The “Coletivo Levante” brings together architects, engineering professionals, designers and landscapers with the aim of encouraging architecture in the community.
The house nominated for the world architecture prize was the second construction made by the “Centro Cultural Lá da Favelinha”. According to rapper Kdu dos Anjos, the institution promotes entrepreneurship in a creative and communal way, in addition to generating income for more than 80 people.
The community institution promotes education and culture for residents of the community in Aglomerado da Serra, especially for children and young people.
The Cultural Center built by Coletivo Levante was one of the winners of the 8th Architecture Prize of the Tomie Ohtake Institute and won the National Architecture Prize from the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brazil.
How was the construction of the “Casa no Pomar do Cafezal” carried out?
In an interview that Kdu gave to CNN, he said that the project for the house began with the arrival of architect Fernando Maculan, at the Lá Da Favelinha Cultural Center, in 2017. But the work itself only started in 2018 and was completed only in December 2020.
The 66-square-metre construction had the collaboration of Coletivo Levante, which developed the entire architectural design of the house.
In 2021, Kdu dos Anjos called photographer Leonardo Finotti to take pictures of the house. The photographer assembled the photos into an editorial and sent them to various parts of the world, including ArchDaily.
The result was incredible, the photo publications were among the ten most liked in 2022 on ArchDaily, in addition to being included among the top 50 houses of the year.
Kdu dos Anjos talks about the house and its nominations for world-famous architecture awards: “There's no water, people. No light, yes. It has violence and prejudice. But news that shows another side, the side of beauty and creativity, is a relief. The side of strength, of dreams. And that has no price".
The rapper even said that he wouldn't live anywhere else, even if he traveled the world and with various possibilities at his fingertips.
“I can live for seasons anywhere in the world, but this is where I really intend to live. I really like living in Aglomerado because here we take care [of each other]. I never locked my gate. People take care of each other and know each other,” said Kdu.
