NAME:

The myth of the creation of the night

In the past there was no night. It was always daylight. The sun shone warming the Earth. The moon and stars were like the sun. Everything was light and clarity in the village and in the forest. The men hunted without ceasing and the women worked without rest, as it was always day, there was no night.

The sun made its way to the west and then returned by the opposite way back to the east. Mauá controlled the Sun, Moon and stars, not allowing anyone to approach them.
A man once wanted to know how the sun worked. He waited for Mauá to go out hunting and approached the Sun. When I touched it, the sun broke, as did the moon and stars. And night appeared in the immensity of the dark. The women could barely find their hammocks inside the maloca. Children and the elderly moaned in the depths of the dark night.
Mauá returned to repair the Sun. Upon seeing the man who had broken him, Mauá pounced on him and threw him away. When he fell, the man turned into the little golden-hand monkey, dark as night and with golden hands like the sun he had touched.
It was not possible to fix the Sun to make it work as before. The sun walked to the west, but could not return, disappearing over the horizon and leaving the Earth in darkness. Mauá then made the Moon and stars appear in the absence of the Sun to lighten the night a little. And it's like that until today.
