Do you know who the “father of aviation” is? Well, know that he is an inventor born in Minas Gerais, named Alberto Santos Dumont.
Santos Dumont's passion for aviation dates back to his childhood, when he watched the birds to try to understand how they flew. The inventor's biggest question was: “How can birds fly, if they are heavier than air?”.
His father noticed Santos Dumont's interest in aviation and sent him to study in France. In 1906, he tried an unprecedented fact: flying with a device heavier than air!
In France, a crowd of onlookers saw its first plane, the 14-BIS, fly more than two meters above the ground, over 60 meters.
Santos Dumont also invented the wristwatch – a way he found to better control flight time.
At the time when Santos Dumont was studying a way to fly, the lamp and the sound recorder were also invented, by Thomas Edison, in the United States.
