Benefits and opportunities of remote and flexible working

Irish young professionals are optimistic about the opportunities offered by flexible working, saying they have found significant benefits in their career progression.

The survey, conducted by National Broadband Ireland in partnership with Grow Remote, a voluntary community project which bridges the gap between remote work and local impact in rural areas, surveyed 1,236 workers across the country.

It turned out that 55% of workers in theGeneration Z, aged between 18 and 24, believe that remote work has had a positive impact on their careers, in contrast to only 23% of workers aged 45 to 54 who shared the same opinion.

The results also revealed that 57% of all workers felt that remote working opened up better job opportunities in Ireland. However, more than half of respondents believe that employers need to create better ways for remote employees to access company culture.

Challenges for Generation Z and the concern of employers

One concern highlighted by the survey was that 78% of Grow Remote members believe that remote workers don't feel as connected to the company's culture.

While Gen Z values flexible benefits in the workplace, employers have expressed concern about the effects of virtual work on this group.

Executives at renowned companies such as Deloitte and PWC have observed that workers who graduate during the pandemic have weaker skills in teamwork, communication and collaboration.

According to Jackie Henry, managing partner at Deloitte UK, young professionals are used to work in isolation, which can make it difficult for them to adapt to teamwork in offices and workplaces. customers.

Promoting inclusion and engagement: Meeting the expectations of Gen Z

This research underscores the importance of balancing the advantages of remote and hybrid working with the need to promote employee inclusion and engagement.

By understanding Gen Z's perspectives and expectations, employers can create work environments that meet the demands of this new generation of professionals, ensuring their career growth and development.
