The Federal Police carried out an operation that revealed fraud in bids to buy robotics equipment in the state of Alagoas.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education (MEC) appointed a new director to support educational management at the Basic Education Secretariat, dismissing the former director. The exoneration was published in the edition of the Official Gazette (DOU) of last Monday (5).

The Federal Police pointed to evidence that a group would have been able to embezzle BRL 8.1 million through the purchase of robotics kits between 2019 and 2022. These kits would be distributed in 43 counties from Alagoas. The diverted resources were from the National Education Development Fund (FNDE).
Since last year the scheme was being investigated by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). At that time, the acting government decided to suspend the contracts.
Altogether, the Federal police served 27 search and seizure warrants in 5 Brazilian states, but 2 more people received temporary arrest in Brasília. In the safe of one of those involved who had his arrest ordered, R$ 4.4 million in cash were found.
Information about this case of embezzlement of public money came to light this week. However, investigations have been going on for months and are still expected to intensify going forward.
