When we analyze the last ten years, health plans are present in the ranking of complaints in nine of them. They only left the lead in 2020, during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, when financial services led consumer complaint numbers.
Idec offers information, guidance and support for people to exercise their rights and make smart choices when buying goods or services. The organization also conducts research on issues related to consumer protection, such as access to healthcare, food safety and digital rights.
Complaints about plans in 2022 are mainly related to doubts and problems related to contracts (27.4%), lack of information (18.1%) and readjustments (13.7%).
Private health plans are services offered by private companies that guarantee access to medical and hospital care upon payment of monthly fees or fees. They can be hired by individuals or legal entities. Generally, they include coverage for consultations, exams, surgeries, hospitalizations, among others.
These contracts are regulated by the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS), which establishes norms and supervises the companies that offer these services. The ANS also maintains a list of health procedures and events that the plans must cover, according to the modality contracted by the client.
Now, financial services are responsible for 21.2% of complaints registered at Idec.
Most complaints concern the security of bank transactions and scams (20.1%), followed by criticisms related to contractual clauses (11.4%). In general, the institute plays a vital role in defending the rights and interests of consumers in Brazil, as its work has helped to shape public policies and business practices in favor of a fairer society for Brazilians.
