In a small house in an old and traditional Hamburg neighborhood, young Axel, shy and insecure, works with his uncle, the irascible professor Lidenbrock, a geologist, and his disciple, the efficient Graüben. In an old manuscript, Lidenbrock finds a cryptogram made by Arne Saknussemm, celebrated Icelandic scientist of the 16th century, with the bombastic revelation of that, through the chimney of the crater of the extinct Sneffels volcano, in Iceland, it was possible to penetrate to the center of the Earth and that he – Saknussemm – had proven this fact. Lidenbrock flares up and, very excited, quickly departs with Axel for the cold Iceland where, accompanied by guide Hans, as phlegmatic as his boss, they plunge into the mysterious depths of the volcano Sneffels.
