Pink and purple color the capital's streets, parks and gardens, in the spectacle of flowering, which is part of the calendar of attractions for the season in the city
A month without rain and Belo Horizonte begins to take on the colors of pink and purple ipes, in a spectacle that will have its high point in August, with the arrival of yellow, the most characteristic of the Atlantic forest region of Serra do Curral and cerrado, in Pampulha. According to Servio Pontes Ribeiro, PhD in ecology, professor at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), most species on the roads, parks and gardens in the capital are native, and only the pink ipe trees, common in the main avenues of the center of Belo Horizonte, came from the coast Rich.
Ribeiro explains that the flowering of the species is a “physiological trigger” of the plant in response to the dry period: the leaves fall and the bud, with the accumulation of water, blooms. For those who pass through the streets of the capital, it is pure delight. And, if this year the ipes do not show the same volume of flowers seen in 2015, there is no need to worry, because it is an evolutionary adjustment of the species, which occurs year by year, to avoid predators from its seeds.
And if the purple ipes are now starting to be seen, don't expect a predetermined sequence of colors. Sérvio Ribeiro says that there is no scale, although there is a tendency for the yellow ipe to bloom in August, as it resists more to dry conditions. In addition, camera in hand and enjoy this spectacle until spring comes.
