How to know if the dog is happy?

There are some points that allow you to observe whether or not the dog is happy. Check out the list below on how to notice this along with a brief explanation of these signs:

  • Behavior Variation: Canine behavior is inherent to these animals, that is, no matter how calm they are, attitudes such as barking, nuzzling, nibbling, sniffing and playing are part of their instinct, so it's a sign that they feel free;
  • Relaxation: The rigidity of the body in dogs is a sign of curiosity or that they feel threatened. So, a dog that spends more time with a relaxed body posture is happier and more relaxed;
  • Regulated appetite: Although each breed and breeding method directly influence appetite, when the puppy is not feeding right, or avoiding meals even when encouraged by the tutor, it could be a disease or sadness;
  • “Smile” and happy look: Happy dogs have relaxed facial muscles, which gives the impression of a smile. The eyes can also express their happiness, as the relaxed eyelids mean that the animal is very calm;
  • Regulated sleep: As with humans, dogs can suffer from a lack of sleep, which can lead to some health problems, such as chronic stress. So if your puppy is sleeping normally, it's a sign that he's happy and healthy;
  • Dog behavior away from the owner: If the dog scratches doors, licks its paws compulsively, barks or howls a lot while the owner is not home, it could be a sign of “separation anxiety”. The recommendation here is to look for a behaviorist veterinarian.
