Travel updates: New rule allows GPS tracker in bags

A new rule has been applied so that passenger safety is guaranteed. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an institution belonging to the UN (United Nations), the international security guidelines were modified and now allow devices trackers in checked bags.

Now, therefore, passengers can use Apple's 'airtags' tracker to track the bag during the trip. The rule shows that devices with lithium batteries can travel inside luggage checked and can remain connected during the flight, being necessary to comply with the limit of 0.3 grams from the battery.

This is a story that has been repeating itself over the years, going through permitting, banning and then being permitted again. The rules, of course, are subject to change and need to fit the requirements presented. Check out the full news below!

Baggage trackers will be allowed on flights

In recent history, some airlines reported that Apple trackers did not comply with the rules set by ICAO for transporting lithium batteries. Now, ICAO has updated the limits for carrying checked baggage trackers.

Lithium batteries are objects that can cause combustion and overheating, present in smartphones and notebooks. In the cabin, any type of fire could be reversed, but checked luggage, which is in the hold, could cause a serious accident. That's why trackers had been banned.

Lithium is part of one of several ICAO regulations to ban dangerous goods on aircraft. Now, the institution has approved the new rule that allows small devices that have a lithium battery, such as Apple's luggage tracker, to be transported in the hold of the aircraft.

Safety inside and outside the aircraft is the responsibility of aviation. There are many reports of luggage being stolen at national and international airports, making it essential to have a tracker in order to establish optimal passenger security.
