Who doesn't like a warm bread and butter for breakfast? Used as a synonym for life and work, food for the body and soul, bread is part of the culture of many peoples and has an important meaning in various religions. The result of baking a dough made with flour from certain cereals, mainly wheat, water and salt, it may have been one of the first foods prepared by man.
The history of bread is so old that it is even difficult to say precisely when and how it appeared. Historians, however, estimate that bread appeared about 12,000 years ago, along with the cultivation of wheat, in the Mesopotamia region, where Iraq is today. At first, the wheat was probably just chewed. Only later, it started to be crushed with stones and turned into flour.
Before being used to make bread, flours from various cereals were used in soups and porridges cooked in water. Later, honey, sweet oil, grape juice, crushed dates, eggs and ground meat were also mixed, forming kinds of cakes that were baked on hot stones or under ashes. These cakes gave rise to the bread itself.
