Invasion of Congress: see which works and objects were destroyed

On the second Sunday of the year, January 8, organized extremist Bolsonarists invaded the headquarters of the Three Powers. With about 100 buses coming from the most varied locations in the country, added to those that were already camped in front of the Brasília HQ, the vandals marched towards the Praça dos Três Poderes.

When they got there, they invaded the three buildings, namely: the Federal Supreme Court, the National Congress and the Planalto Palace. These constructions were furnished with gifts from other heads of state, with priceless works of art, among other items of value.

The scammers promoted real destruction, from windows to works by world-renowned artists.

Federal Court of Justice

The headquarters of the STF was the first place to be emptied by the police and guards, but it did not pass unscathed by the “protesters”, who managed to destroy historical and symbolic works:

• Coat of Arms of the Republic: The symbol of the Federative Republic of Brazil was removed from the wall of the Supreme Court plenary and left on an armchair in the middle of the Três Poderes square;
• Sculpture by Alfredo Ceschiatti, “A Justiça”: The work in front of the stf was graffitied with the words “perdeu, mané”.

National Congress

Another building that suffered damage was the National Congress, seat of the country's Legislative Power:

• Stained glass window by Marianne Perretti, “Araguaia”: The work was in the Salão Verde do Congresso, and the damage is still being investigated.

Planalto Palace

The seat of the federal Executive Power was the most damaged, with works of inestimable value. Check out the damage below:

• Photos: All photographic records of former Presidents of the Republic were removed from the gallery and destroyed;
• Sculpture by Frans Krajcberg: A work made with wooden branches on the wall, valued at around R$ 300,000, was also destroyed;
• Juscelino Kubitscheck's desk: Another historical item that was in the Palace hall. The rioters used the table as a barricade, trying to contain the advance of the Shock Troops;
• Work by Di Cavalcanti, “As Mulatas”: She was in the Great Hall of the Palace. He received seven stab wounds during the incident. The value of the work was estimated at R$ 8 million;
• Work by Jorge Eduardo, “Flag of Brazil”: A painting that depicted the national flag flying. It was found floating after the attacks made by the so-called patriots, who activated the fire hydrants found ahead;
• Work by Bruno Giorgi, “The Pied Piper”: A bronze sculpture was broken into several pieces. It had an estimated value of R$ 250 thousand;
• 17th century grandfather clock: Last but probably the most historic item destroyed, this clock had been a gift from King Louis XIV of France for Dom João VI, being made by French watchmaker Balthazar Martinot, with design by André-Charles Boulle. The piece had undergone a restoration in 2012 and was in the presidential office. The restoration of the work is considered “very difficult”.
