Diplomat Sahle-Work Zewde, 68, is the first woman elected president in Ethiopia's history. She was chosen by the parliament of the African country after the resignation of her predecessor, Mulatu Teshome, who had been in power since 2013. The result was released on October 25th.
The Ethiopian woman is the only female president on the entire African continent today.
Before being appointed, Zewde held the post of director-general of the United Nations (UN) in Nairobi, the capital of the Kenya, and has also been the special representative of the institution's secretary general, António Guterres, to the African Union (UA).
