The hibiscus commonly used for consumption belongs to the species Hibiscus sabdariffa, characterized by flowers with large petals of an intense red tone. This species is totally edible (from the stem to its fruits), while other types of hibiscus contain high levels of toxins and are not recommended for consumption.

The plant has medicinal properties such as:

  • Aid in digestion and retention;
  • Acts on blood pressure;
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory;
  • Decreases anxiety;
  • Preserves vision.

This happens because tea is a source of vitamin A, B and C, magnesium, potassium, iron, anthocyanins and polyphenols.

about cultivation

This plant is already adapted to the tropical climate of Brazil, therefore, its cultivation is not laborious. You can plant hibiscus at any time of the year, but its main development takes place in summer and spring.

Its roots can grow a lot – needing a lot of space to develop – so prefer to plant it in gardens or in large vases that are 40cm deep and wide.

When soil, it is not very demanding and you can use a lighter substrate, with mosses and a neutral pH. However, pay attention to the fertilization of this land, which must be done every 4 months and taking care not to suffocate the plant with large amounts of chemical fertilizer.

Hibiscus can be planted indoors or outdoors, respecting your needs for plenty of light and warm areas. Thus, the plant should receive at least 8 hours of direct sunlight every day.

Watering should be done 3 to 4 times a week and preferably with water at room temperature, as this plant does not support cold water (or climate). Also, pay attention to the drainage of the vase, which must flow well so as not to disturb the development of the hibiscus.

So, now that you have the tips on how to grow hibiscus, how about passing these tips on by sharing this article.
