Where will Severino walk?

The last free-living blue macaw in the world lives in Brazil, but has been missing for two months. If not found, the species is at risk of extinction.

Nicknamed Severino, the bird inhabits the region of Curuçá, in the backlands of Bahia. According to the coordination of the Spix's Macaw Recovery committee, a team of scholars and residents is already looking for Severino. There are suspicions that he was attacked by hawks.

The Spix's Macaw is the smallest Brazilian macaw that exists, measuring less than 30 centimeters and weighing about 400 grams. Today, there are about 40 species in captivity worldwide (in Brazil there are seven). Their small size and the beauty of the blue color unfortunately attract animal traffickers, who hunt and sell the macaws as domestic animals.
