According to the Law, the water must be filtered and within the federal potability parameters for human consumption. Information about the availability of the product must be included in the menu of the establishments, in a visible way, informing consumers about their offer.

In case of non-compliance, establishments will be considered violators and will receive a warning, followed by a fine in case of recurrence.

Benefits of the Law

In addition to ensuring the health of consumers and contributing to the preservation of the environment, the “Água da Casa” Law also brings benefits to the image of commercial establishments.

The offer and courtesy in meeting consumer requests, when they request free water supply, has the potential to strengthen relationships and bring benefits to the image of establishments, demonstrating that they respect their customers and engage in an attitude of sustainability.

Examples in Brazil and in the world

The practice of offering free drinking water is already common in European countries and the United States, and in Brazil, there are already some municipalities with similar legislation, such as Rio de Janeiro and Campinas.

The measure is considered a worldwide trend, since the consumption carried out in cups provided by establishments reduces the use of plastic bottles, which are harmful to the environment.

The “Água da Casa” Law brings benefits to both consumers and commercial establishments, and its adoption is a worldwide trend.

It is important that establishments are aware of the legislation and provide drinking and filtered water free of charge, ensuring the health of customers and the preservation of the environment. In the event of non-compliance, it is essential that you have specialized legal support to avoid sanctions and identify opportunities for improvement in your work process.
