Lifespan of a person: how to find out through the eyes?

Among the parts that make up the eyes, one of the most important is the retina. It is composed of a thin tissue, very sensitive to light, which is located at the back of the eyes, where images are captured and recorded, and then sent to the brain to interpret. Recently, researchers discovered that damage to the retina is capable of supposing the a person's lifetime!

What the eyes don't see

Over the years, the body presents marks and internal and external signs. However, not all of them are fully noticeable. After all, age decline may not represent changes in a person's health status, and vice versa.

Thus, a very effective way of knowing the biological age is through a very quick examination, which observes the back of a person's eyes, where the retina is located. In this way, it is possible to discover the true age of an individual and his future health.

How is it possible to see a person's lifespan through their eyes?

Through a machine in conjunction with an algorithm, it was possible to observe the retina of several people, and thus guess their age. Of the people evaluated, 47,000 adults and elderly people had their age confirmed just by checking their retina.

However, of the people that the machine and algorithm failed to show a retina older than the person's actual age, 1,871 died. This represented an increased risk of death from various causes of up to 3%.

Alongside this, other studies have also assessed retinal health, as well as its link with outcomes. cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease, arterial disease, and other damage to the health of the heart. In this case, it was observed that, by identifying damage in retinal photos, it was possible to prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease appearing when early treatment was carried out.

This is all part of the hypothesis that the retina demonstrates aging through the damage it suffers over time, due to constant exposure during our lifetime. In fact, this method is more accurate than other ways of assessing aging.
