The first toothbrushes appeared in China around 1498. They were made from pig's hair braided on bamboo sticks. These bristles were later exchanged for horse hair, which was not yet the ideal material, as they gathered moisture and created mold. The best solution appeared in 1938, when the first brushes with nylon bristles appeared, which are still used today.
