During an exploration, a team of detectorists found over 600 historic coins inside of England, more specifically in a territory of Culden Faw State, in the county of Buckinghamshire.
The discovery was made in 2019, when a total of 627 gold and silver coins were discovered, which today are equivalent to 150,000 pounds, or approximately R$ 930,000. The group used metal detectors to find things in the ground for hobby.
according to analysis historians, the coins must belong to the reign of Edward III, dated between 1327 and 1377 (Middle Ages). According to one of the researchers, 12 gold coins belonged to the time of the Black Death.
The country's justice decided that the treasure is a historical heritage of the country, according to the experts' assessment. According to the legislation, discoveries above three coins fit as treasure, being, therefore, belonging to the authorities and the nation.
The discovery is still one of the biggest in the last decade, due to the amount of gold. Initially, they discovered few coins, but throughout the entire exploration they found 627 returned to the government.
They report having camped at the site during the search period, which they considered extremely important given the historical value of the pieces. One of the discoverers says: “These coins are special […] They are small pieces of gold and silver and also a piece of history”.
