The berimbau is a string musical instrument well known in Brazil for being one of the central elements of capoeira circles, defining the rhythms of the dance. In fact, it is believed that it appeared in ancient African tribes, which used it in funeral rites, and was taken to Brazil by slaves in 1538. Before having the role of making the musical accompaniment of capoeira, the berimbau was already used by sweet sellers, usually freed slaves, to attract the attention of the clientele.
However, if we analyze the berimbau as a musical arch model, we have to go back to much older times. It is estimated that this was one of the first instruments that man used to emit sounds, a reality proven through paintings found in caves in southeastern France.
The musical arc probably emerged sometime between fifteen and twenty thousand years ago. In fact, the same was present in festivities of Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Persians, Phoenicians, among other peoples.
