Education is one of the main issues addressed by the new government and will be under the command of PT senator Camilo Santana. According to the transition team and the submitted report, the education sector has suffered several budget cuts and freezing of its funds over the last few years.
According to the new government's transition team, between 2019 and 2022, the MEC and the municipalities will suffer from regulatory, institutional and budgetary setbacks, putting into also note the lack of planning, the discontinuity of relevant policies, as well as the lack of articulation with state, federal and national education systems. municipalities.
The transition team mentioned that the reconstruction of investments for funding resources for universities and federal institutions is fundamental to guarantee quality education.
A text prepared by the transition team says:
“The neglect of education affected several programs, such as school meals, construction of kindergartens and schools, curriculum organization, expansion of full time, initiation into teaching, among others. The few initiatives adopted came late, benefited a limited number of students and were disconnected from real needs, as in the case of of the teacher training strategy through distance education platforms, without national coordination, encouragement and appreciation of educators”.
Snacks will be prioritized
With the focus on fighting hunger in the country, one of the priorities will be quality school lunches in Brazil. It is up to managers of public schools to offer quality basic education, however, the federal government must offer support to these educational institutions.
For meals, the federal government passed on an amount of R$ 0.36 per student, reaching R$ 1.07 for full-time students, values that have not been readjusted since 2017.
The readjustment in the value of the meal is an emergency matter for the transition team, in the case of the sector education, in addition to that, according to Law 11.947/2009, at least one third of food must come from from the family farming.
Another priority is that, according to the National Education Plan – PNE, Law 13,005/2014, 50% of children up to 3 years old must be enrolled in day care centers by the year 2024.
