New companies emerge during the pandemic.

For the development of a given country in relation to its economy, not only due to the production of wealth, but also for the contribution to positive changes in an entire society.

In view of this, in 2021, the Federal District recorded a very high rate of open companies, since 2019, 75 thousand opened new ventures with an increase of 15.68% compared to 2020, with a good part of individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEI).

For experts, this number reflects a dynamic arising from the pandemic that sparked a crisis economically, therefore, unemployed, people decided to open a MEI in order to guarantee some income.

However, as new businesses were opened, others were closed, until the beginning of February, more 6,300 were opened and 2,700 closed, according to data from the Ministry of Economy.

In this way, Newton Marques, Member of the Regional Council of Economics, points out that during the pandemic several companies were left without the capacity to operate, dismissing a large part of the staff as the only alternative to contain costs.

The economist points out that “these people who found themselves unemployed become MEI and, thus, have greater economic security and income depends, theoretically, only on them”.

This movement, according to the economist, causes the unemployment rate to tend to fall, since "this population leaves the unemployed statistic and enters as entrepreneurs".

This contributes to the drop in unemployment that we have seen in recent months.”

However, according to the Employment and Unemployment Survey (PED), carried out by the Federal District Planning Company (Codeplan) and by the Department Inter-union for Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), between the dates of December 2020 and 2021, unemployment fell by 2.4 percentage points, from 19.5% to 17.1%.

However, despite the large number of public companies, 29 thousand deals were closed in the year prior to this one, a reflection of the pandemic, as explained by the economist and financial market professor at the University of Brasília (UnB) César Bergo.

However, for the specialist, in the coming months this dynamic should stabilize, as it is an election year and the elections move the economy, adjusting this balance.
