Pawns, bishops, rooks, knights, queen and king. White and black pieces arranged on a checkered board. Two very attentive and focused players. Calculated moves, capture of opponent's pieces and… checkmate! You must already know what we are talking about, right? From a game that delights more and more children around the world: chess.
It has been a little over 20 years since chess became popular in Brazil. But the game is very old! According to information from the Chess Center of Excellence website, the game appeared approximately a thousand and five hundred years in India, under the name of Chaturanga, and little by little it became the current chess game.
The many wars and the search for new trade routes caused chess to be introduced in Western countries. In the Middle Ages, the game went through some changes that led to its current form. At that time, chess was practiced by the European elite (by the richest and most powerful people in Europe), being called “the game of kings and king of games”.
With the creation of the mobile press by Gutenberg in the 15th century, the printing of chess books became possible. With the multiplication of these books, the first significant democratization of the game took place. Its second phase of popularization occurred in Eastern Europe, at the beginning of the 20th century, when the Soviet Union adopted chess as a complement to education, becoming a power in this sport.
The third democratization began with the computer revolution and the emergence of the Internet, in the second half of the 20th century. From the 50s onwards, sciences such as Psychology and Artificial Intelligence, seeking to build machines intelligent, presented studies that accelerated the production of electronic chess players (chess players). Today many high-level chess players (or chess players) use these programs to train and improve.
