On Christmas Eve, children go from house to house singing typical Christmas carols – in Greek, of course. The singing is rewarded by the adults with money. But it is not at this time that Ágios Vasilis, as the Greek Santa Claus is called, delivers the presents. Only in the New Year do the memories reach the children. Unlike Brazil, Greeks do not have Christmas dinner on December 24, when they fast. The meal is made at lunch on the 25th and includes the kurabiedes, a sweet butter distributed to the children.
