The pesticides used in the production of most foods in Brazil cause damage to the environment and to the health of rural producers and consumers. Whenever possible, give preference to agroecological or organic foods.
Pesticides are products used in agriculture to eliminate insects or weeds in crops. They are also called agricultural or agrochemicals.
National and international studies leave no doubt about the damage caused by these products on the population, especially on rural workers and communities, and on the environment. In addition to the contamination of food, land, water - which in some situations becomes unsuitable for the human consumption - we have the intoxication of living beings, such as mammals (including man), fish, birds and insects. Regions with high use of pesticides have an incidence of cancer well above the national and world average.
