understanding the studies

According to the study done by the National Institute of Public Health at the University of Southern Denmark, wine consumption reduces the risk of diabetes by up to 30%. In that case, it takes an average and moderate consumption of four servings during the week.

For this, the Danes used data collected from more than 76 thousand individuals, between 2007 and 2008, through the State itself. In this way, there was monitoring of the research participants for five years, where they had to answer questions about lifestyles and perform blood collections constantly. Thus, the researchers were able to keep up-to-date information on the health conditions of these individuals.

After a period of five years, it was reported that nearly 1600 men and women had diabetes, the majority being type 2. This is because type 1 is more related to genetic issues and its diagnosis can be made in youth.

Through this, it was possible to point out that wine consumption had a very significant impact on the lives of these adults, especially on glucose metabolism. In addition, it was also noted that the risk of developing this disease is greater among those who consume more beer or liquor, since the drinks are very different in their compositions.

Why is wine so effective?

Basically, this fermented product, especially the red one, has polyphenols, an excellent substance for reducing blood sugar. Even the amount of drink needed to have this effect varies greatly between the sexes. For women, one to six measurements per week reduced the risk by 21%. Meanwhile, for men, it takes at least seven drinks a week to reduce the risk of diabetes by 30%.
