In Law 10.741/2003 it is possible to find all the guarantees that the State offers to the elderly, who are citizens who have already contributed a lot to society. In this case, some of them are popular, while others are ignored by a large part of the population. See here the main highlights of the Elderly Statute:
As we saw during the Covid-19 vaccination period, the elderly have preferential care in health services. But this is not restricted to access to health, but also in queues at banks, clinics, public bodies in general and also in private institutions.
It is the duty of the Government to ensure that the elderly always have access to the medicines they need, especially those for continuous use. In this case, this distribution must be made through the Unified Health System.
The elderly also enter the list of groups that receive exemption from Income Tax. In this case, the citizen must be 65 years old or older, and the discount includes both retirees and pensioners.
Anyone who thinks that only students have the right to half-price tickets to cultural and leisure events is wrong. That's because the elderly should also receive this discount that needs to be at least 50%.
Anyone who is elderly, has a low income and does not receive a retirement or pension, can apply for the Continuous Cash Benefit, the BPC or LOAS. For this, it will be necessary to enroll in CadÚnico through the presentation of documents that prove the family income.
You have probably already seen the spaces with signs for the elderly in parking lots, whether in public or private agencies. This is not a courtesy of the institution, but compliance with a law that determines that at least 5% of the spaces in any parking lot must be for the elderly.
Depending on the city where the elderly citizen lives, it is possible to request exemption from IPTU. However, this is a benefit that depends on the approval of the municipality.
