The CPF will be mandatory in several documents; check which ones!

In January, Law No. 14,534/23 was sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), guaranteeing that the CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registration) is the only citizen identification document in all of Brazil. From now on, as it is the only number, the CPF must appear in other records.

The Bill (PL), approved in September 2022 by the Federal Senate, had Senator Esperidão Amin (PP-SC) as rapporteur for the proposal. In defense of the PL, Amin stated that this measure would favor society, especially people who are in a vulnerable financial situation:

“The idea is healthier, it is necessary, it is economical. A single number capable of interconnecting all dimensions of the individual's relationship with the State and with all its manifestations,” said Amin.

The RG (General Registration) will no longer be valid and only the CPF will be used for this purpose. The new identity, for example, presents the new template with just the current record. Some states have started producing the new shipment of documentation.

This measure tends to reduce the number of frauds that were caused throughout the country on account of the RG, as it allowed the citizen to access at least one record per state.

CPF will be mandatory in other documents

All documents from public bodies must include the CPF number. These are the documents:

• Birth, marriage and death certificates;
• Identification documents;
• Records in PIS or Pasep;
• Voter title;
• National Driver's License (CNH);
• Workbook;
• health cards;
• Military certificate;
• All identifications of the INSS (National Institute of Social Security).

From now on, all bodies will have a period of 1 year to ensure that the current procedures are effective for the citizen.
