The new General Registry (RG) for Brazilians began to be issued last August. The document is not yet available for all states in the country, but in some of them it is already possible to request and receive the digital RG, which will be much safer. Soon the document will be present throughout the national territory and will be mandatory.
To issue the new RG model, you must go to an issuing body in your city and take the following documents: Birth or marriage certificate, a identification document with photo, which can be the current RG, and the Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF), which will become the only identification number of the new document.
Citizens will be able to access both the online and printed versions of the new identity card, as many Brazilians still do not have access to the internet, the main objective is that no one is left without a identification.
States where the new RG is already available
So far, the new document can already be obtained in eight federated units, that is, Brazilian states, namely: Acre, Goiás, Pernambuco, Paraná, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and the Federal District. The other states, in turn, will only have access to the digital RG from 2023.
Traditional identity document will be valid until 2032
Even though it is mandatory, the rules establish that the current version of the identity document will be valid until the year 2032. This is because the validity period of the RG is ten years, so as citizens have to renew the document, they will already migrate to the new version and this should occur by 2032.
