The week begins with good news released by the Ministry of Education (MEC)! The Pasta authorized the granting of 2,500 scholarships for quilombola and indigenous students enrolled in federal and higher education institutions. The benefit includes students from universities and federal institutes without assistance from the beginning of the semester.
The announcement was made on Friday (15) by the Minister of Education, Rossieli Soares. Scholarships from the Bolsa Permanência Program (PBP) grant the amount of R$ 900.00 for housing, food, transportation and books subsidy. The intention is to prevent these students from studying to work, due to the infeasibility of supporting themselves.

Young Ambassadors Program is accepting applications for 2024
The PBP has been in force since 2013 and, until last year, 7,836 quilombola students and 22,130 indigenous people had already benefited. However, the lack of vacancies since March has been a reason for complaints by students. According to Rossieli Soares, opening vacancies manages to remedy the problem.
Registration for the PBP is now open and can be done until August 31 on the program's website. Proof of eligibility requirements will be the responsibility of the institutions themselves, as well as the approval of said registrations. The benefit is paid by means of a card provided to the assisted students.
Indigenous students enrolled in federal educational institutions have greater problems accessing higher education. Statistics show that 63% of students enrolled in universities in 2016 have not yet been selected for student assistance programs.
The data were collected by the Higher Education Census. According to the figures, these students were unable to get a place at a public university, nor were they selected by programs such as University for All (Prouni) and Student Financing Fund (Fies).
