Names of Greek and Hebrew origin stand out

With 2023 already so close, it becomes possible to try to measure trends in favorite names. Until then, what can be seen is that there is a continuation of the choice of favorite names for 2022 and 2021, since parents prefer more traditional names, originating from historical characters of the humanity.

For example, in boys it is possible to notice that in recent years there has been a resurgence of names of Greek origin, mainly names that are from characters in Greek mythology, such as the name Hector. There is also a tendency for girls, as one of the most popular female names is Helena.

Still, nothing beats references to biblical names, which is certainly an expression of our people's faith. In the boys, the names Davi, Pedro, Lucas and Miguel stand out. As for the girls, there are Sara, Anna and the classic Maria, which is usually accompanied by other names, such as Júlia, Beatriz or Luísa.

In addition, the names of famous characters from film and television are also often included in the lists. In recent years, for example, we have seen an increase in registrations with “Elza”, in reference to the Disney character from the movie “Frozen”.
