Is it normal for cats to sleep on their owners feet? understand this behavior
It is considered common to change hair twice a year, usually in spring and autumn, when they are preparing for the warmer and colder season, respectively. However, after this period the decline should decrease.
When they are puppies, around four months old, it is also common to change hair. During this period, a greater amount of scattered hair can be observed, but this is normal.
The follicular cycle of kittens varies according to breed, so some of them tend to shed more hair more frequently, due to the less extensive cycle.
Even in situations where shedding a good amount of hair is normal, attention should be paid to regions with alopecia, as this is a problem. Signs such as fur flaws, redness, wounds or the like, are indicative of illness and a veterinary doctor should be sought immediately.
Different causes can lead the kitten to develop alopecia, including: allergic reaction to food, fabrics or hygiene products; bacterial or fungal dermatitis; skin diseases such as scabies; malnutrition, with micronutrient deficiency; injuries resulting from fights; stress; worms; burns caused by excessive sun exposure.
If the fall is due to those normal reasons that we mentioned earlier, then there is not much to be done, as it is a natural process. However, some precautions can and should be taken to avoid alopecia.
That way, now you know when shedding is normal, when it's not, the causes and how to prevent your cat from shedding abnormal amounts of hair!
