As far as is known, there is no specific law or regulation that prevents children from accompanying their guardians to polling stations. As there is a need for secrecy of the vote, and this secrecy cannot be broken, it is up to the poll worker to decide whether or not the child can accompany his parents to the polling booth.
The Regional Electoral Court (TRE) of the state of São Paulo answered this question for Revista Crescer. If it is an infant, and those responsible are not accompanied by anyone else to take care of the baby while the adult exercises his right, the child will be allowed to enter the cabin, where the electronic voting machine is localized. However, if they are older children, they will probably have to wait for their parents sitting inside the polling room, but not in the booth.
According to the legislation, all literate Brazilians between the ages of 18 and 70 are obliged to vote. Voting becomes optional, that is, optional, only for people who are 16 and 17 years old, for citizens over 70 years old and those who are illiterate.
