NAME:

the cat in boots

There was once a miller who had three children. He left his mill to his eldest son, a donkey to his second son, and a cat to his third son. The third child, named Marques Carabás, was very disappointed.

He was surprised to hear the cat say:

- I'm not useless, just give me a bag and a pair of boots and I will transform your life!

Marques Carabás did as the cat asked him to. Before long, the cat managed to catch a rabbit, in a trap, then put it in the bag. Then the cat departed for the king's palace and, in an audience, sumptuously declared:

– I bring to Your Majesty a gift from my master, the Marques!

The king was very pleased with the gift. A few days later the cat asked Marques to pretend he was drowning in the river water. And when the king's chariot crossed the river bridge, the cat screamed for help. The king's men saved Marques and invited him to the palace.

Puss in Boots then entered a castle in which an ogre lived. The ogre could change into any animal, and so the cunning Puss in Boots forgave him turning into a mouse. The foolish ogre obeyed and the cat immediately devoured him! So the cat brought Marques to live in the sumptuous castle. The king was so impressed that he married his daughter to Marques that very day, they lived happily ever after with Puss in Boots!
