Attention, MEI: know what needs to be paid as monthly tax

One of the main objectives of the individual micro-entrepreneur modality is to provide assistance to small businessmen of our country, making them formal in a less bureaucratic way. Despite this, some categories are not exempt from taxes! Some need to be paid monthly for it to follow within the law.

In short, this simpler and more practical form ended up bringing some benefits to the class that received exemption from some taxes. Therefore, the entrepreneurs were able to obtain a CNPJ and also had access to the forms of control of a company, that is, to better verify the entries and exits of the same.

However, it is necessary to know that MEI is linked to Simples Nacional, so you do not need to pay some of the federal taxes such as, for example, the Corporate Income Tax (IRPJ), Cofins, IPI, CSLL and the PIS. What's left? It is necessary to pay a fixed amount per month to be able to keep “up and running” according to the government.

We receive a constant question about MEI: is it worth becoming one? Among all the advantages of giving up informality to become an entrepreneur, the main ones would be the right to social security, a simpler taxation model and having a CNPJ at no cost and without bureaucracy. As we mentioned earlier, MEIs do not have to pay taxes like those already mentioned, despite being seen as a small business.

The person who is formalized as a MEI needs to pay these three monthly taxes: the ICMS, which was set an amount to be collected when issuing invoices; the INSS, which amounts to around 5% of the minimum wage in force in our country; and also the ISS, which is the tax on services that costs R$ 5 fixed.

Values for monthly payment of MEI

  • For companies that provide services, the amount is R$ 65.60 and refers to the INSS of R$ 60.60 + IR$ 5 ISS;
  • For companies operating in commerce and industry, the value is R$ 61.60 referring to the INSS of R$ 60.60 + ICMS in the amount of R$ 1;
  • For companies that work with commerce and services, the value is R$ 66.60, since R$ 60.60 is linked to the INSS while R$ 1 is ICMS and R$ 5 is ISS.

These amounts are paid through the famous Documento de Arrecadação do Simples Nacional (DAS). In addition to the fact that taxes are unified, in order to facilitate payment more and more, it must always be made by the 20th of each month. You can use up to four payment methods:

  • In the banking network or at a lottery agency;
  • Through online payment;
  • Debit:
  • Pix.
