Dutch man who fathered around 550 children will be taken to court

Many couples or even single people who have problems to generate a child naturally and have the dream of having children resort to the process of fertilization. In it, beneficiaries have stored sperm from volunteers who opted for semen donation. However, in order to make the donation process possible, there are some rules that, when infringed, may have serious consequences.

As a great example, we have the case of Dutch youtuber Jonathan Jacob Meijer, who was sued for breaking a very important rule.

The Dutchman's excessive number of donations resulted in a lawsuit

Although it is a supportive and very significant attitude for those who benefit from the practice, donating semen requires a lot of responsibility and common sense.

The donation process has rules, which can be different according to the region, and it is essential to respect them.

To give you an idea, in Brazil, for example, a man can be a father

biological of only 2 children (of different sexes) in the same region. Another great example is the Netherlands, where a donor is only allowed to generate a maximum of 25 children.

• Why is there a limit?

The main reason is the great possibility of people generated through a common donor to relate in the future without knowing it. The consanguineous marriage of siblings can bring complications, since their children are highly likely to be born with health problems.

• Dutch Youtuber Didn't Respect His Country's Rules

Even though he was aware that he could only be the biological father of only 25 children, Jacob decided to go further. Already in 2017, the donor received a notification from the Dutch Society of Obstetrics claiming that the number of children with his genes exceeded the 100 barrier.

However, instead of respecting the rule and stopping the excessive number of donations, Meijer actually decided to tour Europe and make more donations.

As a result of this “adventure”, at least 550 individuals possess the Dutchman's genes. Clearly, the number exceeds the limit set by the Netherlands and any other country.

As a consequence of this, the Donorkind Foundation, responsible for promoting the meeting of individuals generated through from the same donor, brought Jacob to court and demanded that all material still existing on the youtuber be destroyed.
