The regulation of body temperature is a process that depends, among other factors, on the transformation of nutrients, such as _____________ and fats, into energy. This same energy that warms us also allows us to perform countless other activities, such as breathing, talking, running and even sleeping. That way, when we eat, we are providing energy for the body to spend on the tasks it performs throughout the day.
We now know that one of the tasks is to produce heat, but where and how does this production take place? Well then! The body is made up of tiny particles called cells. And cells, in turn, are made up of organelles. Like our organs, cell organelles have different functions. Mitochondria are the organelles responsible for cell respiration and… for thermogenesis.
