The future Minister of Education, Velez Rodriguez, said today (1st) that a secretariat will be created to take care of civic and military school initiatives. He emphasized that this is not about “militarization” and that the cost of expanding the model “would not be very expensive”.
“Why not support this if it's working? It's not something that comes out very expensive. The models being developed are based on already established schools that ask for help from civic-military management. [There will be a] subsecretariat that will take care of that”.

According to Rodríguez, the model “brings a benefit to discipline, children having an education for citizenship”. The idea of having military schools in all Brazilian capitals by 2020 was already part of Jair Bolsonaro's government program.
Vélez was the first to arrive at the Planalto Palace, a few hours before Bolsonaro swore in, who will receive the presidential sash around 4:30 pm.
The future head of the Education portfolio also defended the model of a public university paid for by those who have the financial conditions to do so, and mentioned what is happening in Colombia, his country of origin.
“Charging a fee from public universities would not be something from another planet. In Colombia, public university is paid through income tax return. If you don't have money, the government gives you a scholarship. If you are middle class, you pay a symbolic amount and if you are rich, you pay.”
He anticipated, however, that the issue should be discussed by the Legislative Power. “But everything must be discussed calmly in the National Congress, with society and with the academic community. It's not something that's going to fall like a bolt from the sky.” The information is from Agência Brasil.
