Erico Verissimo's first bestseller, “Look at the Lilies of the Field” represented a turning point in the writer's literary career. Several editions sold out within a few months. According to Erico, the success was so great that he “had the strength to drag with him the novels” he had previously published in modest print runs. Eugênio Pontes, a young man of humble origins, barely graduates as a doctor and, thanks to a marriage for interest, enters the elite of society. Along the way, however, he is forced to turn his back on his family, set aside old humanitarian ideals and abandon the woman he really loves. Sensitive, moving, “Look at the lilies of the field” is an invitation to reflect on the authentic values of life.
