With the end of the year coming, the discussion about the new minimum wage for 2022 became more heated. Even more so after a year with inflation so high. And the reduced purchasing power of Brazilian families.
Benefits paid through the INSS also change in calculations when a new minimum wage arrives. That way, retirees and pensioners will start 2022 receiving new amounts. The law defines that no Social Security benefit may be less than the minimum wage.
Thus, currently the amount paid is R$ 1,100. That is, the same as a minimum wage this year. The index that arrives at the final value of the minimum wage is the National Consumer Price Index (INPC). He is responsible for measuring inflation in Brazil.
The data are released by the Ministry of Economy, which pointed out that in 2022 the new value of the minimum wage should be R$ 1,210.44.
The new value applies to those who are retired, pensioners or who receive the Benefit of Continued Provision (BPC). The highest amount that the INSS can pay as a social security benefit should be R$ 7,979.50 next year, if the minimum wage is maintained as provided by the government.
In this way, other benefits will also have readjustments, such as the social security death pension, pension for the death of an ex-combatant, prison aid, pension for the death of a former maritime combatant, sickness allowance, social security disability retirement, social security accident aid and so many others.
In addition, the INSS has also released the payment schedule for 2022, starting in January. There are two calendars, one for those who receive a minimum wage. And the other for those who earn more than that.
