Shampoo

Shampoo appeared in England in 1877 and at first was not a bottled liquid, but a hair massage service, offered by exquisite beauty salons. Even though everyone used soap, water and sodium oxide crystals, the proportions of these ingredients varied from salon to salon and the formula was carefully protected. To use shampoo at home, it was necessary for John Breck, a totally bald American firefighter, put on sale, in 1930, a “hair cleaner” whose formula was _____________ based on detergent (not of soap).
