Know which are delicate and fragile clothes

  • Delicate clothes are those made with linen, wool, silk or embroidered materials;
  • Silk and wool can fray or shrink if they are not cared for properly, using, for example, a protective bag when washing them and at lower temperatures;
  • Overheated water and washing machine spins can also damage soft cotton fabric and the finest sheets;
  • For embroidered garments, it's also a good idea to wash them separately and use a bag to ensure the trim doesn't come loose.

How to wash delicate clothes?

  • Separate the delicate parts

The first thing to do before putting clothes in the washing machine is to separate the delicate items from the rest.

  • Place in protective bags

Also, place fragile items in protective bags for washing, separating by type of fabric. In this way, you can protect your clothes and prevent the different materials and fabrics from mixing and spoiling.

If you don't have many of these specific bags, the idea is that you buy them or improvise. If this is the case, the tip is to use pillowcases tied with a knot at the end to place delicate clothes.

  • Program the wash cycle

After that, put the bags in the washing machine and choose the “delicate” cycle. In addition, it is essential to read the washing instructions that come with each piece of clothing. As a result, you avoid using any product that could harm your piece.

If your washing machine doesn't have a special cycle for delicate clothes, only use half the capacity of the machine. In this way, you protect delicate clothes from the hustle and bustle of this appliance.

  • water temperature

Another important factor is the need to adjust the water temperature, setting it to cold or lukewarm. This tip is important to prevent some pieces from shrinking during washing.
