Buriti or miriti (scientific name: flexuous Mauritius) is a plant with wide distribution in the national territory. It can reach up to 30 meters in height and have a stem with a thickness of up to 50cm in diameter. The species inhabits flooded lands and swamps of various formations, being found very frequently in the footpaths, an important phytophysiognomy of the Cerrado. Buriti blooms almost all year round, but mainly from April to August. Fruit production is intense: according to data from Embrapa, five to seven bunches are produced per year, each with 400 to 500 fruits.
