A very valuable role played by forests is to protect and preserve freshwater sources. Did not understand?
Spring is where the water is born and then follows its course in the form of a river, originating lakes and ponds, for example. For springs to exist, rainwater is needed. This water that falls on the trees in the forest is stored in the dead leaves that cover the ground and is slowly absorbed, ending up in the subterranean sheets, which, in turn, supply the springs.
Destroying forests is putting at risk the fresh water available to all species.
