It is common to hear around that lions are the kings of the African jungle, and many people must keep a flea behind their ears: in the Brazilian forests, who reigns supreme? If we're talking about big cats, there's no doubt about it – jaguars are the queens of the forest!
The jaguar (panthera onca) is the third largest cat in the world and the largest cat in Brazil. Relative of the lion (
panthera leo), of the tiger (tiger panther) and the leopard (panthera pardus), she is the only representative of the group on the American continent. Originally, it could be found from the southern United States to Argentina, but it has disappeared from several regions. The reasons?
