Although it is a solitary animal most of the time, the jaguar can be seen in groups during the reproduction period or in groups formed by the mother and her offspring.
The favorite time for mating depends on the environment, but it usually happens before periods of food abundance. In the floodplain forests of the Amazon, for example, jaguars reproduce at the beginning of the dry season, between the months of August and September. Gestation lasts from 90 to 110 days and, in general, females have two pups at a time – but up to four pups can be born in the same litter.
