Symptoms of type 2 diabetes in children

In fact, all the symptoms are similar both in children and adolescents and in adults. Therefore, a child with type 2 diabetes may show some warning signs. See below what these symptoms are.

  • Increased urge to urinate

Children with type 2 diabetes may pee more than they did before they had the condition. This is because when there is too much sugar in the blood, the body expels some of the sugar through the urine, and the excess water follows the flow.

  • Increased need to drink water

It is very common for children with this condition to feel a greater need to drink more fluids, usually water, than usual. This is because increased urination can lead to dehydration, and consequently, increase the desire to drink fluids.

  • slow healing

In case any wound on the child takes a long time to heal, it is better to keep an eye on it. High blood sugar levels can lead to prolonged wound healing times and skin infections.

  • Fatigue

If the body does not control blood sugar effectively, children may feel fatigued more often. Therefore, in this case, physical and emotional discomfort can also lead to general depression.

  • skin darkening

Insulin resistance can lead to the development of a skin condition called “acanthosis nigricans” which causes areas of the skin to darken. Pay attention to the armpits and the back of the neck, which are the most affected areas.

  • Blurred vision

In addition, the vision condition of the type 2 diabetes carrier can also be affected. By having high blood glucose levels, there may be greater difficulty in focusing on that organ.
