Flamingos can stay on one leg for a long time. They do this even in their sleep. American scientists have found that they don't even have to push in the balanced position, they can rest that way naturally. According to the researchers, it's not tiring for them to stand on one leg.
Many birds adopt this one-legged posture, often while sleeping, but the flamingo is an extreme example. Experts believe that birds do this to save energy and reduce muscle fatigue caused by changing legs.
